"According to the Lunar calendar, the 15th of the 8th month is a time of celebration, worship and viewing of the harvest moon. The fruits of labor have been gathered, and families come together to relax, give thanks and admire the moon. They often have banquets at midnight, and visit ancestors' gravest o pay respect and clean the area for the coming winter." The 2001 Mid-Autumn Festival is on October the 1st. To honor this occasion, AU members made enlightening pamphlets on what the moon festival is and how it came about, including four well narrated myths. Then on October the 8th, in the chilly weather, AU went to Hamilton Park and decorated the gazebo there with hand-crafted lanterns and balloons. Korean deserts and Chinese moon cakes were served for people to try as traditional Asian music was played in the background. Asian Unity also took this opportunity to raise money for the September 11th fund. All in all, by selling prepackaged moon cakes and small lanterns, we raised over 300 dollars!
