On April 5th, AU spent the day in New York City's Lower Eastside Health Center, located on 46 East Broadway. There, we aided Margaret, a social worker, as we worked with the Center's schizophrenic patients. Due to lack of transportation, we had to get off at 9th street on the Path and walk an entire hour to get to our destination. After the event, during which we taught the patients how to fold ribbon roses while they entertained us with karaoke songs, we all ate at Chinatown's XO restaurant before walking back to the Subway station. It was a truly worthwhile experience. Although there were language barriers, a translator helped us with getting to know the people there better. They told us about their conditions while we shared a little about ourselves. Margaret looks forward to our participation in the future and in the meantime, we will continue to help them raise money by selling the beautiful pressed flower cards they made.
