Our AU Message- board

Asian Unity was invited to perform at the 7th Annual Hudson County Asian Heritage Festival on May 18th, 2002.  Not only did members have to learn new dances, they also had to do so aside from studying for their AP exams in High School, which took place daily for the two weeks preceding the date of our performance.  However, AU made it with flying colors.  Asian Unity was also rewarded with the Governor's award for excellent community service.  With the help of Flor Madel, who granted us one of the first slots on the program, AU was able to launch the Little Shop of Wonders, a show that tells of a young girl (played by Faith Mesias), who discovered the importance of her Asian heritage through traditional ethnic dances performed by dolls magically coming to life.

In the show (in order of appearance):

Barbara Aviles introduced the program
Scott Wasmuth talked about AU
Faith Mesias was the main character who tried to learn each dance
Sammy Liu was the kind shop keeper
Vinh Duong was a mischievous Karate kid
Tran Vo was a nimble Viet dancer
Eunice Na was a stately Korean girl picking flowers
Joanna Wu and Michelle Go were Chinese dolls
Georgia, Faith, Dianne and Bianca performed the Filipino candle dance
Nidhi Dharithreesan was the graceful Hindu performer

Technical Crew:

Peter He worked the lights
Vinh Duong compiled the CD
Adam Capulong and Stephen Na worked backstage

Special thanks to Mrs. Browzozoski, who lent us the Chinese costume and the fans, Mrs. Dapito, who taught the Filipino dance, Mrs. Go, who helped with hemming the ribbons, Tao Ho for lending us Viet costumes, Ms. Flor Madel, and also all the parents for their support.

Also thanks to Suzanne E., Sofia N., Amy E., Art-Bryan M., Sophia K., Michelle Go's sister, and Marie A. for being ushers, providing support etc...

Aside from the dance, AU also had to arrange a fashion show.  The Board of Directors came back to show support and all in all, the program was such as success that AU was invited by Flor Madel to make this an annual performance.

Of course, after work, we all went to lunch at Miss Saigon.
