NewsflashOn August 20th, members of Asian Unity went on an outing to see the Korean movie, Friend, at Anthology Archives. It was a part of the Korean movie festival. Afterwards, we went to dine at a Malaysian restaurant called Nyonya. The food was great and we all had fun. Then we got down to business with elections. Click here for results! On June 22nd, AU once again hosted its annual Summer Picnic at Bayonne Park. Aside from the 7th Annual Hudson County Asian Festival, AU also hosted workshops at McNair Academic High School on June 6th in celebration of the Asian Heritage Month of May. Students learned to fold paper cranes, make ribbon roses, write in different styles of calligraphy as well as test out their skills at the chopstick marshmallow contest. Here's a look! On May 18th, the Saturday right after two weeks of grueling AP exams, AU members had to perform a cultural presentation which involved lots of dancing and glittering costumes. Learning the dances helped AU members to get in touch with their Asian heritage and also taught us how to manage time. The show was a success and we were invited to make this an annual event. AU even received the Governor's Award! This is a must see! On April 5th, dedicated members of AU visited patients (mostly schizophrenics) at the Lower Eastside Health Center. We taught them how to make ribbon roses and they entertained us by singing karaoke. It was indeed a worthwhile experience. Afterwards, AU members filled up their bellies at the XO in Chinatown.
